Oslo City Hall, located right next to the Nobel Peace Center and the waterfront, is one of the most striking buildings in the city. From the outside, its twin brick towers rise dramatically against the skyline, framed by the patterned stone plaza that leads you up toward its grand entrance. The approach alone is impressive — the symmetry, the waterfall features, and the sense of scale make it feel like you’re entering a truly important civic space.

Inside, the mood shifts from monumental to unexpectedly vibrant. The central hall is vast, bathed in light, and filled with stunning murals that depict Norwegian history, culture, and everyday life in extraordinary detail. It’s both ceremonial and warm, a place that feels alive with stories. The murals are jaw-dropping in size and color — they stretch across the walls and almost overwhelm the senses in the best way.

I especially appreciated how easy it is to access the building: free entry, minimal fuss, and plenty of space to linger without feeling rushed. It’s one of those sites that blends civic pride with genuine artistic wonder. If you’re visiting Oslo, this is absolutely worth a stop — whether you’re into architecture, history, or just want a moment to take in something grand and uniquely Norwegian.

Es un edificio vistoso de ladrillo rojo (Oslo Radhus), que mira al fiordo y se compone de un edificio central para las actividades oficiales y dos torres laterales, sedes administrativas.

what a pleasant surprise! Oslo Rådhus can be visited, and this is quite impressive. From the outside and the inside, it offers an original and unique architecture. The visit allows you to discovers exceptional interiors with quite astonishing frescoes of impressive dimensions. Several official gifts are also exposed that are worth seeing. Great visit!

Oslo ikonikus épülete 1931-50-ig épült, a német megszállás és a II. világháború lassította az építkezést. Funkcionalista, neoklasszikus stílusa, tégla borítása, és méretei messziről láthatóvá teszik. Tervezői és építészei: Arnstein Arneberg és Magnus Poulsson.
Tornya 66 méter magas, az egész épület teljes területe 38 000 m2. Nagyterme 1 500 m2-es és majd 21 méter magas.
2000 óta a keleti toronyba harangokat helyeztek el, óránként harangjáték hallható.
Az épületben adják át minden év december 10-én a Nobel Békedíjat.
Munkaidőben több része is szabadon látogatható.

Sublime hôtel de ville, avec plusieurs superbes fresques murales dans le hall en marbre et les pièces de l’étage.
Le tout est enveloppé dans une architecture extérieure imposante mais néanmoins agréable à l’œil.
Des visites guidées sont proposées à 10h, 12h et 14h. D'une durée de 45 minutes à 1 heure, elles sont menées par un personnel souriant et compétent. Je les recommande vivement.

Open to public, magnificent building, backing to the harbor/pier, a small garden on the side. Worth a visit and spending some time in and out of the building. In a walking distance to the Castle.

Impressive building, happened to be the 75th anniversary when we visited. Not a ton to see since there was some government meeting in action upstairs. The murals inside and the floor itself are beautiful. Even if you can't make it inside (free entrance, by the way), the architecture and fountain out front are impressive enough to rate 5 stars. Don't miss the art under the covered walks along the courtyard sides, with placards telling the story of the art relating to Norwegian/Scandinavian folklore.

Ratusz w Oslo – miejsce, gdzie wręcza się Pokojową Nagrodę Nobla

Wyobraź sobie budynek z czerwonej cegły, stojący tuż nad fiordem, którego dwie masywne wieże widać niemal z każdego miejsca w Oslo. To Ratusz Miejski w Oslo (Oslo radhus) – trochę surowy z zewnątrz, ale w środku kryje prawdziwy skarbiec sztuki i historii Norwegii.

Najważniejszym miejscem jest wielka sala główna, wysoka na kilka pięter, ozdobiona ogromnymi freskami. Jeden z nich pokazuje norweskiego chłopa przy pracy, inny – sceny z mitologii i historii kraju. I to właśnie w tej sali, każdego 10 grudnia, rozgrywa się coś wyjątkowego: uroczystość wręczenia Pokojowej Nagrody Nobla.

Ceremonia odbywa się dokładnie w rocznicę śmierci Alfreda Nobla. Laureaci siadają na środku, na tle monumentalnych malowideł, a naprzeciw nich zgromadzeni są królowie, królowe, prezydenci i setki gości z całego świata. Wszystko transmitowane jest na żywo – z tego „surowego” ratusza obraz trafia do milionów widzów na całym świecie.

Ciekawostką jest to, że tylko Pokojowa Nagroda Nobla wręczana jest w Norwegii, a nie w Szwecji – taki zapis znalazł się w testamencie Nobla. Do dziś nie ma pewności, dlaczego tak postanowił, ale mówi się, że wierzył w pokojową tradycję Norwegów.

Po ceremonii odbywa się wystawny bankiet, a miasto wypełnia się światłami i muzyką – bo Pokojowa Nagroda Nobla to nie tylko wyróżnienie, ale i wielkie święto Oslo.
