Situated at the end of a fjord, what could be more beautiful. An exquisite hotel full of charm, warmth and character. We ate at the restaurant which didn’t disappoint although the first try of brown cheese was something most odd and not to my taste, a Norwegian delicacy so for some I’m sure it’s delightful. Our room waste quaint and elegant, my only disappointment was that we weren’t staying for longer. Would return in a heartbeat.

Charming hotel in beautiful location. Room was spacious and comfortable but a little shabby. Lovely bathroom with old fashioned bath tub. We were in room 358 in the Historic wing. Slightly quirky decor set it apart from other more cookie cutter hotels. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend staying here if you are lucky enough to visit Flåm.

Bed was not particularly comfortable
The dinner buffet was below average.
Same was true for the breakfast.
Location is great, on the water near the railway station and the dock.

This charming hotel is conveniently located at the last stop on the Norway in a Nutshell train to Flåm Norway. Steps away from the train station and situated in a valley of steep mountainsides. The service was amazing, the restaurant dinner buffet was the freshest and best tasting dinner we’ve had any where in the world in a long time. We had a balcony off our room which gave us and incredible view. The front lobby lounge has comfortable seating areas looking out the observation windows at the front of the hotel. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel.

Staying at the Fretheim Hotel in Flåm feels like stepping into a dream painted in song. Nestled against towering mountains and overlooking the serene fjord, the views from the hotel are nothing short of breathtaking, every glance out the window feels like a verse of poetry set to music. The rooms are warm and inviting, but it’s the panorama outside that steals the show, especially in the soft morning light or the quiet glow of evening.

The hotel itself carries a sense of history blended seamlessly with comfort. Breakfast was fresh and generous, the perfect start to days spent exploring the fjords. It’s more than just a stay, it’s an experience that lingers like a melody.

If you are headed to Fram Norway not many hotel options and this is probably your best. Fram is located in the fjords with many options for sightseeing and hiking. The hotel is basic, rooms are small but adequate. One does not travel to Flam to stay at the hotel. Staff was more than pleasant, food better than expected.

I stayed here in August 2025. A nice hotel built in the tradition Nordic style. I stayed in the original part of the building which was more expensive but full of charm. I bought the package of room, breakfast and dinner and the zip line experience. This was the most economical way of doing it. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style but there’s a separate restaurant available for dinner if you don’t want the buffet.

There are very limited options for accomodation in Flam and clearly this hotel takes full advantage of the lack of competition.|On a positive note the hotel is in an excellent location. The buffet breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. |Now for the negatives. We were unfortunate enough to have a historic room. Historic at this hotel appears to mean dated and lacking in amenities. There was no fridge and no safe. The bathroom had a roll top bath and shower curtain . It was difficult to step in and out of the bath due to it's design. It's an accident waiting to happen. Using the shower flooded the floor . The toilet had a high cistern the like of which I have not seen in 50 years. There was no handle on the chain for flushing .|Food in the a la carte restaurant was a joke. Massively overpriced , mediocre quality and very little choice. Worst of all was the waiter who apparently was Italian and knew all about coffee. We asked for coffee with milk which he said he could not bring us as he did not understand. He ranted about different types of coffee was stroppy and we never got the coffee. Management should teach him about customer service.
